January Nourishing Reminders
January Nourishing Reminders
The New Year brings in this period of people setting goals, intentions, cutting back on things, taking things up, a chance for a 'new year new you' mentality kind of thing. But one thing we must remember, is the New Year for us in England, is in the midst of winter. Winter is our time for hibernation, for rest and renewal, the weather is cold and wet, days are shorter and it is time to reflect. So I hope you enjoy these tips for the month ahead.
✨Movement
Move your body in a conscious way. What I mean by this, is gradually build it up into your routine. Lots will get to the start of January, go hell for leather and push themselves too much and it either becomes an unenjoyable thing, you burnt out or its a short term thing. This January be conscious with it, move daily, be it a walk, a yoga class, a run, a gym class, simply dancing at home, whatever it is do what your body is craving.
✨Nature
Make time for nature. The Winter Solstice is a reminder to slow down and connect with the quiet beauty of the season. Bundle up and take yourself out for walks in nature, appreciating the stillness of the landscape and the wildness of winter.
✨Rest & Reflection
Take time to focus on your sleep and rest. Honour your need for extra sleep, slower mornings, and quieter evenings. Rest and sleep are absolutely essential for overall health and well-being because they allow the body and mind to recover, repair, and recharge.
✨Nurture your Nervous System
Nurturing your nervous system in January is key to supporting your overall well-being, especially as winter’s slower pace invites a time of rest and restoration. The post-festive season can be both physically and mentally taxing, so taking intentional steps to soothe and calm your nervous system is essential. Why not start your day with a warm fresh ginger and lemon water?
✨Nourish your Body
Food for the soul! Our bodies can benefit from warming, grounding foods that nourish from the inside out. Root vegetables (like sweet potatoes and carrots), soups, stews, and broths are excellent for providing comfort and essential nutrients. Include foods rich in vitamin C (citrus, kale, and bell peppers) and zinc (pumpkin seeds, beans, and lentils) to boost immunity and keep your energy steady through the colder months.
Try stick to these, it isn't just about 'January, New Year, New Me', it is about staying present and nourishing ourselves through the winter months ahead!
