Why I Journal and How You Could Add it to Your Routine

Start your Journaling Journey

For the past 3 years I have journaled every day religiously and it has become a huge part of my routine. So much so, that I include it in every retreat and event I do.

How did I get into it?

I got into journaling just after training to be a yoga teacher. I had read a little about it and also heard about it but wasn't quite sure what I was meant to be writing about, why I was doing it and also what was the point of it! It started with me just writing down little bits and getting them out on paper and I found it so useful. Gradually over time it built up and up and I got into the routine of doing it daily.

Why I do it?

On a trip to India and talking to a wonderful man about life and he said "we live our lives so fast that we bearly even remember what we did last week and we wake up and are like machines just going about our day being so unaware and this really hit home. I left the conversation and reflected on that, that during my busy weeks, life goes so quickly and days can pass by and you forget what you have done, we end up never reflecting. So every night I get into bed, I sit with my journal, and reflect on the day I have had and I write a short bit of what I have done that day, how I have felt and if anything has popped up I write it down.

I also have my big journal for days when I need to get things off my chest, I will open it up and just write whatever is going on in my mind. I am a big over thinker, so for me, it is a wonderful way to let things out of my busy mind!

What have I got from journaling?

I love the idea that I can pick up my daily journal, pick a day and look at what I wrote about that day and how I felt. It has been a big part for me of my own personal growth, to be able to see how far I have come, but also to be able to look back and remember that day. Remember that feeling and see how life moves and changes constantly.

Writing and journaling is incredibly mindful and is a unbelievably powerful tool to be able to have whenever you feel stressed, confused, unable to work something out, wanting to vent whatever it is, it is a chance to get it out of your busy mind and onto paper.

What are your tips into journaling?

✨There is no right of wrong with journaling.

✨You don't have to journal everyday, either once a week, daily or whenever your mind needs it.

✨Let go of pressure, let go of 'not doing it right' as you are doing it right!

✨Find your own rhythm your own feet within it. Be it a daily journal or whenever you fancy.

✨Find freedom and don't be afraid to write whatever you can. No one else is going to read it.

✨Follow my journaling prompts to help you kick start

✨Buy a beautiful journal that you enjoy.

Finally...
